Supporting Our Community

ENERGY ASSISTANCE WITH WAFF

In 1983, Washington Gas and The Salvation Army created the Washington Area Fuel Fund (WAFF) to help neighbors in need with their heating bills each winter. Washington Gas handles the fundraising and promotion, and The Salvation Army disburses the funds through its 12 offices in the metropolitan region.

Need help? WAFF assistance is available annually between January 1 and May 31. Customers who qualify are eligible to receive up to $1,500 in payment assistance.

A special Heating Fund is currently available to assist natural gas consumers with paying their gas bills.

Give Help, Donate Now
With utility bills, every dollar counts. Washington Gas pays the administrative fees of the fund so 100 percent of WAFF contributions go to those who need assistance. Give today to help keep your neighbor's energy on in the greater Washington, DC area homes. Make a difference and donate now.

Innovating Energy Solutions

WHAT IS CHP?

CHP, also known as Combined Heat and Power, is defined as cogeneration. CHP uses a single fuel source – such as natural gas, renewable natural gas or hydrogen – to generate both electricity and thermal energy for buildings with central heating, hot water, and electrical service. This technology is growing in use because of its benefits with increasing energy efficiency, reducing environmental impact and generating reliable energy. These benefits all contribute to a more sustainable world and have the potential to lower energy bills.
