Fuel Cells

Lower Operating Costs and Increase Efficiency

Fuel cells convert methane in natural gas into electricity without combustion.

The Benefits of Implementing Fuel Cells:

  • Fuel cells are the most energy efficient devices for extracting power from fuels at reduced costs providing higher total system efficiency than many other generation sources with the same amount of fuel input.
  • Even though fuel cells are a relatively new technology, they have the potential for tremendous growth in application and consumption for more efficient lower emission buildings.
  • A conventional combustion-based power plant generates electricity at efficiencies up to 33 to 35%, while fuel cells can generate electricity at efficiencies up to 60%, which can be even higher if combined with Combined Heat and Power (CHP).
